Halloween Teeth: Should You Use Fake Teeth or Grills?

With spooky season just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start looking for the perfect costume to set yourself apart. With outfits getting more realistic each year, there are many props and prosthetics you can use to bring your character to life. One of the most popular additions to Halloween costumes is fake teeth or Grillz. These Halloween teeth options can make your look more convincing, it is important to take care when using these prosthetics.

Halloween Teeth: Should You Use Fake Teeth or Grills?

Staining Wax Coatings

Depending on what type of character you plan to dress up as, blacking out your teeth may be the finishing touch you need to bring your look together. There are a lot of options out there, however, it is important to choose a product that won’t permanently stain the enamel of our teeth. Opt for peel-off colored wax or a black-out tooth prosthetic applied with denture glue instead. If you use a retainer or have braces, it is a good idea to skip prosthetics or other products that may interfere with your dental procedures.

Cosmetic Fangs with Adhesives

Who doesn’t love a spooky vampire with sharp fangs? Although the vampire craze has faded into obscurity, vampires remain one of the most common costumes every Halloween. Thanks to social media, costume designers are getting even more creative with make-up and clothes, creating everything from mermaids to monsters. With many advancements in technology and easy access to cosplay materials, realistic monster fangs are available to just about everyone. In most cases, they are over the teeth prosthetic sets that are made to go on top of the teeth. Monster teeth are often attached using a form of dental adhesive so that they don’t slip off during your holiday excursions.

Most dental adhesives are temporary and will wash off with proper brushing. However, there are some nefarious dental glues on the market that can harm your teeth. Low-end vampire fangs are often sold with adhesives that are toxic and can harm your enamel. There have even been reports of some glues being impossible to remove without the help of a dentist.

It is a good idea to spend a little more and purchase your vampire fangs from a reliable source. However, another option is to use denture glue instead. It is safe, won’t harm your teeth, and is available in just about every local store.

Dental Jewelry and Grills

Do you want to hit the town dressed up as your favorite rap star? If so, chances are you need a nice grill to complete your look. There are a lot of shiny grills you can find online that look great and are safe to use. Aside from grills, dental jewelry is another common costume component that has grown in popularity over the years. Most are safe and easy to remove, however, it is still important to do your research before hitting the check-out button.

Avoid dental jewelry and fake grills that contain lead as well as those that have actual metal components. Any type of sharp edge should also be avoided because they can damage your gums or cut your lips. Grills that have a very tight fit can also damage your teeth and even alter your alignment if worn for extended periods.

Get The Most Out Of Your Halloween Look With Safe Dental Prosthetics

Always remove your dental prosthetics when you eat and before you go to bed. Brush your teeth well and ensure that no glue or residue is left behind. Following these simple tips will allow you to have a perfect costume for Halloween without risking your oral health in the process.
